Chapter 406: Unexpected Reunion
Chapter 406: Unexpected Reunion
I paused and looked at her, studying her face before I concluded. The most part of seeing her had been through the night and now that I was seeing her in broad daylight, I had to be sure, she was the one or it was simply her lookalike.
"Cade?"
The fact that she called out my name as she turned to look at me was enough to tell me that I hadn’t been wrong. Her terrifying behind and her cold face.
I turned to the bandits.
’Bastards! You should worship me!’
I remembered how much of a noiseless storm she had been through the battlefield that night.
These men...
They spoke to each other, looking at me with greedy expressions.
"Well, to use the bridge will cost you one gold crown per person."
Immediately Sulin snapped her head towards them, glaring. The blonde-haired boy that was with her yelled.
"What?! Just now you were asking for one silver talent, how did it become one gold crown! You people... are you even the Bridge Wardens like you claim?"
Sulin was silently glaring at them.
I stepped forward, in between Sulin and the blonde-haired boy.
Even if I was stinky rich now, I wouldn’t give three gold crowns away just because I could. And I knew guys like this. I wasn’t stupid enough not to know that they would go back to wherever they came from and would plan something even bigger.
So these thorns... it was better to nip them now that they were seedlings.
They looked into my face, grinning.
"You don’t look like you’ve got a lot on you, with those rags you have on you, no proper cold gear, did you come here by mistake? Not enough time to prepare?"
I chuckled derisively.
"Why would I need a cold gear? When I’m a heat source myself?"
As I spoke, flame raged out of my body, consuming my hair, and the side of my face, even my brows were a dancing white flame, my back, was a rolling flame that danced towards the sky.
The men staggered back, their expressions paled.
"What? H-How An Inquisitor! An Inquisitor! Those bastards, found us here again! We have to inform Arena Master Maran!"
They ran away, almost tripping on their feet.
I watched with slight surprise as they ran towards the forest, abandoning the magnificent bridge they were guarding.
The blonde boy continued to stare at me, his eyes sparkling.
"Holy Radiance! For an Inquisitor to be sent here, my father must have called the church on this."
He grinned at me. There was some arrogance about that grin of his that put me off annoyingly.
"No matter how awesome you are, you can’t be as awesome as my Sulin here, her body even glows when she locks in!"
I stared at him, raising a brow.
’What? Am I about to be arguing about my awesomeness with a kid?’
He looked to be in his mid teens at best. But his facial features and thick furry clothes told me he was someone quite important.
I faced Sulin.
"Yea, I know of her awesomeness...."
He paused and studied me, and then turned to look at Sulin who was also looking at me impassively.
"Hey, young man. You might be an Inquisitor from the church and you might have helped us here. But I’m telling you, Sulin is a no-go area."
I continued to stare at her for a few more dozen seconds before lowering my gaze.
"Says who?"
The boy’s gaze darkened.
"Sulin, let’s continue our journey, I’m sure this man is itching to go his own way."
"Why should we? I can vouch for his skills, he also has money which we lack at the moment. I think it would benefit us greatly to travel with him."
The boy looked like he got stabbed to the heart while Sulin looked to me.
"Where are you headed to, Cade?"
I turned beyond the bridge.
"I’m not sure myself, but the city beyond the city after this bridge, for a start."
She smiled.
"Grimmwald. That’s fortunate, we happen to be heading to the capital and will definitely go through Grimmwald. Care to come with us, Cade?"
’Sulin... if you ask like that... how can I refuse a beautiful lady with a good booty.’
I smiled, it was not like I forgot the part she talked about my money, but I smiled nonetheless.
For the sake of the game, one had to be willing to let go of certain values.
"That’s fair then."
She nodded impassively and pointed to the blonde-haired boy.
"This is Harter Von Hammerfeld, he’s the second son of the Graf Hammerfield, Werner Von Hammerfeld."
"Hey! You can’t just go introducing me to strangers like that!"
Sulin looked at the boy and gave him a harmless smile.
"He is a good man, trust me. Besides, if he is going to be a threat to us, then we are really doomed, there’s nothing both of us can do."
Harter looked at me, he had a doubting look in his eyes. Then he turned away and let out a frustrated exhale.
"Fine! If he’s as good as you insist, then I will travel with him."
He turned to me.
"You! Be grateful we are moving with you!"
I raised a slightly puzzled brow.
"Shouldn’t it be the other way around here? I mean, you guys hope to depend on me, don’t you?"
He cleared his throat awkwardly.
"W-Well, the Hammerfeld family shall be in your debt! And we shall put good words to the church about you."
I sighed and walked forward.
"There’ll be no need for that."
He jumped after me, while Sulin lifted his luggage and followed.
"No need? No need? What do you mean no need?! Isn’t that everything an Inquisitor want, to gain favor so your name can be written in the Book of Life!"
I rolled my eyes at the nonsense he spewed but didn’t respond to him. Because if I had to respond then I had to clarify that I was a Heroic Spirit Summoner, who could use the flames of some Grand Inquisitor I summoned, which would then bring about explanations about Maggie.
It seemed like a route of conversation too tasking for me to bother.
We walked across the ice bridge that spanned over hundreds of kilometers.
