Chapter 320: The Fall Of The Community PT. 4 [END]

The zombies began to spread within the community, they didn’t meet anyone to consume but there was no longer any resistance as the evolved zombie managed to rip open the lock with its brute strength allowing all other zombies in.

This all but signified the fall of the community and luckily, the citizens had been evacuated so these zombies were no longer a threat except to Carl and those that stayed behind.

Carl was injured and there was no doubt that the zombies would be able to follow his scent but this wasn’t as easy as it sounded.

The blood soaked through the dressing and this made blood droplets drip on the floor occasionally.

There was no doubt about this could do far more harm as Carl acted as a beacon but this was why their destination was the infirmary to take the necessary tools needed to treat his wound.

Lillian quickly picked up a few bandages and chemicals to sterilize the wound so it doesn’t get infected.

However, this meant that they ran into Mathias’ unconscious body laying on the ground.

Shantel managed to pour water on him to wake him up but Mathias was out of it.

Luckily, they managed to make it out of there in time but barely because the zombies were catching up.

Most had no fixed aim and just wandered aimlessly but this didn’t apply to the evolved zombies.

They didn’t control the walkers like the horsemen but rather, they guided them here by simply leading the way.

The walkers followed sound and that was all that was needed and it was hard to derail them once they were on a course.

There was nothing that could be done about this development but Mathias wasn’t trusted to drive the car because of his state.

What if he passed out on the wheels? That would become their doom so Shantel offered to take this role with Mathias heading to the bus with the rest of them.

Lillian knew she couldn’t treat Carl, not yet at least so that meant that they had to get to the bus.

Carl had to survive until then, it was left up to him and his will to survive was one of the few things that would determine if he survived or not.

Mariam’s heart dropped the moment she saw her son in that state, she didn’t know what to say or act but now wasn’t the time to ask questions.

They needed to get out of there and they loaded them onto the bus, Josephine was relieved to see Mathias but why was he here?

What happened to the car, Mathias was light headed but before Josephine could ask any question, the car that had the patients pulled up beside the bus with Shantel seated.

Josephine wondered why Mathias didn’t trust her with this task but there had to be a reason for this so she kept quiet.

Lillian was the reason that Carl had a fighting chance and she was going to make sure that he survived and Carl was the reason there wasn’t more casualties.

Everyone got on the bus but the evolved zombies had caught up, they were running on all fours like rabid dogs.

"Drive!" Lillian shouted, surprising everyone because she was known as a quiet person, she rarely spoke or got in anyone’s business.

This highlighted the urgency of their situation and the car sped away but unfortunately for them, one of the zombies leaped towards the back tyre in a bid to slash it.

And it would have been successful but something got in its way, it was the crow that was observing them from above.

It had swooped down and saved them due to the zombie’s action being interrupted by the crow, making it miss the tyre by mere inches before tumbling on the ground.

The others tried to kill the crow showing that it was something they perceived as a threat despite it being dead but the crow was too versatile for them.

Easily evading their attacks before returning to the sky but this meant that everyone managed to get away.

-

What happened in the community within the space of an hour was something that no one could havve predicted but it also showed that there was no place for Dimitris and co to return to.

They would return to a place infested by zombies but that would be the lease of their problems.

The horsemen had accomplished their goals or rather, they had their minions do it so why were they going to the community themselves if they could do this?

Rachel and Dimitris managed to escape the horseman attack and laid low, they couldn’t be hasty about it.

"I think we are in the clear..." Rachel muttered under her breath, with Glenn’s lifeless body laying in front of them.

Dimitris just stared at him.

He didn’t know what else to say but his eyes were filled with rage, these things didn’t even allow his friend to rest in peace.

They killed him and yet they couldn’t bury him and that was when Dimitris had to make a choice.

"We cannot take him back..." Dimitris made one of the hardest choices he would have to make in his life.

"What?" Rachel questioned, she was confused that he made this decision on a whim.

"We cannot carry him or he would slow us down. And there is no guarantee we will even be able to make it back with him. I would rather we bury him while we have the chance than lose his body during our retreat," Dimitris said, this logic was sound because there was no telling what would happen with the horsemen lurking.

They didn’t even know if Corey or his men were alive but one thing was certain, they had to protect themselves.

With this, the earth was dug up and Glenn was laid to rest, Rachel shed a few tears but it wasn’t as intense as the one before.

However, for the first time, she saw Dimitris finally show emotions and the tears began to flow.

He didn’t say a word but his heart was broken seeing his friend in this state.

Rachel knew he needed time to process this and kept her mouth shut and waited to cover him up.

Glenn was a special man but death had a fetish for taking those special people.

They soon covered him up together, Glenn was one of the few people left in the world that had the privilege of being covered up.

They said a prayer to honor him but this gave them both the closure that they needed.

But they had no time to waste and they began to retreat running ahead.

If they retraced their path, they could remember seeing a few abandoned car on the road the day before.

Hopefully, one of these vehicles were working but it was still some distance away.

They couldn’t let the zombies get ahead of them or they would trap them in that circular formation once again.

There was no way they would be as lucky as the night before but a crow fell from the sky and landed right on Rachel’s shoulder.

"Don’t move..." Dimitris instructed her because he could tell with a single look that this was a dead crow but it wasn’t attacking her so there was no reason for them to startle it.

Rachel realized that the crow didn’t move once it was on her shoulder and they didn’t know what to do because all it took was one bite.

If that bite was successful, Rachel would join Glenn in the ground and he wasn’t going to let that happen.

Rachel served as memento for Glenn and he was going to let his friend live on in her.

However, they didn’t have to worry for long as the crow flew off her shoulder and onto the ground in front of them.

It was like it was trying to catch their attention, this was the first time that something like this had happened.

"What the fuck..." Dimitris thought to himself, this was abnormal behaviour but there had to be a reason for this action.

The crow turned around and looked at him before flying but stopping a couple of meters away from them.

Turning around to look at both of them once again, it was clearly trying to communicate with them.

It could have attacked Rachel and she wouldn’t even realize what had hit her but it didn’t.

There had to be a reason for that.

"I think it wants us to follow it..." Rachel deduced and she was right, this was what the crow wanted but Dimitris was skeptical.

There was no way that this could translate to any good but they had nothing to lose at this point.

"Fine but stay close to me," Dimitris instructed her and Rachel had no problem with this as it showed that he was willing to protect her.

They began to walk in the crows direction and it kept gradually moving forward, allowing them to trail it from behind.

This was their saving grace but growling could be heard soon after and the first thing that came into Dimitris’ mind was that they had been set up.

This must have been a trap and they walked right into it, Dimitris kissed his teeth but he realized that these were familiar faces.

"What?" Rachel muttered under her breath the moment she saw everyone but Corey wandering around like a mindless drone, they was walking right towards her.

"They got them..." Dimitris said, he didn’t feel bad for them because they had died but rather the way in which they did.

Turning was worse than death, a perversion of what God intended but they weren’t going to leave their comrades this way even though they were pieces of shit.

They put them down with the crow patiently waiting for them to finish and they were done in no time.

"Corey... Could he have made it out?" Rachel questioned.

"I don’t know but if there is anyone that could survive that, it has to be him. Corey is the only one that can come out of this alive," Dimitris responded.

This was due to the fact that Corey would sacrifice anyone if it meant prolonging his life.

However, before the conversation could go any further, they were surrounded by the three horsemen.

"Fuck...! It is them!" Dimitris and Rachel exclaimed simultaneously, both looking surprised by their knowledge of these creatures.

But how were they going to get past this hurdle and the crow immediately took to the skies but in that same moment, another took its place.

It was a cloaked figure, landing right at the center of the encirclement with its back turned to Rachel and Dimitris.

The horses became visible agitated and that was when Rachel and Dimitris realized that these horsemen weren’t here for them.

It was here for whoever this person was but who was this person?
