Chapter 269: Chronos Is One

Chapter 269: Chronos Is One

[[Danger! Danger! Danger!]]

Chronos alerted Jason and a part of the map began to beep aggressively, alerting Jason that it was a dangerous spot; he couldn’t just rush in without having a clue of what was going on but he didn’t have the luxury of caution.

Jason didn’t know where the boy was taking Lillian but he knew he couldn’t risk her turning into one of these freaks.

He dashed in that direction, tempted to use Nexus to get there faster but this would only accelerate his infection.

He couldn’t turn to one of them, that was the last thing he needed to happen right now.

If the zombie controlling these evolved zombies has intelligence then there had to be some sort of deal they can come to to stop this carnage.

Jason arrived at the spot in time, displaying impressive agility and speed to scale the obstacles in his path.

He had to take the shortest route, there was no reason for him to take the long and safe route.

This was what allowed him to arrive in no time, he saw signs of struggle from afar but before he could close the distance, a zombie attempted to intercept him by throwing a custom-made spear right at him.

Jason unsheathed his sword just in time and split it into two, he looked over his shoulder.

Only to realize that there were over a dozen infected around him but why didn’t his radar pick them up?

Did they learn how to suppress it so they could move unnoticed? If this was the case then it was a game changer but it also explained how they were able to get into the community undetected.

"This is bad," Jason muttered, he had never fought so many evolved at once but he wasn’t going to back down.

"Chronos, can you confirm the person in front of me is Lillian?" Jason asked his system.

[[Positive match!]]

Chronos responded, confirming it was Lillian and Jason heaved a sigh of relief.

It was almost like the zombies had used her as bait to draw him here but that shouldn’t be possible.

They shouldn’t know who Lillain was to him but he couldn’t think too much about this because a zombie threw a pebble with such speed that it had the potential to tear right through Jason.

Jason rolled out of the way, barely dodging it in time but the stone narrowly missed Lillian, who was fighting for her life some distance away.

Jason noticed this and realized that they were using this dirty way of fighting to increase their probability of success.

Jason hissed before charging right towards them and a chaotic battle ensured.

"Berserker mode activate!" Jason commanded and the moment he did, his eyes rolled to the back of his head.

He had Chronos back so this mode could distinguish between allies and foes.

But Chronos did something interesting, it activated the Nexus simultaneously to increase his fighting potential to the max.

This was what happened when you hand your system complete control of your body for a short time, it could do as it pleased.

And Jason had no idea what was occurring at that moment but did Chronos do this to survive the encounter or did it do it to accelerate Jason’s infection?

The motive was unclear but the zombies were taken care of in a short timeframe, this included the zombies that had surrounded Lillian.

And by the time Jason came to it, all he saw on Lillian’s face was sheer terror.

Jason was drenched in rotten flesh and blood, he looked like a monster and he realized that Lillian must have seen him in that state.

"W-What have you done?" Lillian blurted out but this confused Jason, he had just saved her but Lillian took a couple of steps away from him.

"What is wrong?" Jason asked but he caught a glimpse of something that terrified him.

The boy’s head had been ripped off and Jason returned his gaze to Lillian.

"I didn’t do that, did I?" Jason asked but Lillian took off the moment she saw her chance.

Jason didn’t know why Chronos would attack him but this couldn’t be right.

"Chronos! What the fuck have you done!?" Jason exclaimed.

He had a strict rule about not killing kids except when necessary and Chronos just broke that rule.

[[He was a parasite]

Chronos responded bluntly. Of course, Jason knew he was a parasite but he was an ally.

[[I have absorbed his paralytic ability into the sword, your sword will now paralyze anyone it cuts]]

Chronos informed Jason like that was the problem but then Jason remembered that his powers were part of the reason he had saved him so Chronos must have interpreted this wrongly.

But something was strange, Jason couldn’t place his fingers around it but he felt like he was dancing in the palm of someone else’s hand. And he was right.

-

Schneider observed the situation, the community walls had fallen and the zombies were now wreaking havoc within.

He knew he needed to draw Jason out or he could prove to be a nuisance.

The worst part about this was that the army of the dead was only growing stronger with each kill. But Schneider had Chronos inside of him but unlike the other variant, this one had taken over his brain completely and in doing so, it could access the core memory of every other parasite it comes into contact with, this included its other half, Chronos.

Chronos was unaware of this as it wasn’t at full power and retained limited knowledge but everything that had happened until now.

It was the doing of this variant, the kid that Jason just happened to run into was created by it and it provided the child enough sustenance to survive as well.

Chronos was the god of time and to the onlooker, it looked like this variant had somehow predicted the future and manipulated the situation to bring them to this very moment.
