Chapter 208: Astra’s Ship Upgrades To Tier V
Chapter 208: Astra’s Ship Upgrades To Tier V
A month passed after the raid.
But it did not pass quietly, as Helion Bastion Twelve had not rested once during that time.
The shipyards stayed active, the repair docks stayed lit, and the cargo lanes between the bastion and Larkspur Haven became busier with each passing day.
The first days were the hardest, mostly because everything arrived at once.
Damaged ships needed repairs, the captured materials needed sorting, new workers needed housing, new prisoners needed guards, and captured Kharov data needed filtering.
Solenne also needed to rebuild her career wing.
Rhoswen needed armor work, which is pretty common whenever they go on an expedition.
The Thornwake sisters needed full overhauls before Aurelian would even think about letting them join serious combat.
And above all of that, the fleet needed to prepare for the next stage.
Aurelian spent most of that month moving between the command room, the shipyards, and the quieter spaces where he could work through the new Tier III options that had opened to him.
The Destiny System had changed after his advancement, and this alone made him want to finish up all the work so that he could focus on the new information and options that came with the upgrade.
But he did not think about going to any of these places just yet.
This is because of the need to be upgraded along with him, and to do that, their ships need to be updated with the new options and improvements. Eirenne helped process the technical side, Meridian handled engineering feasibility, and Astra kept the wider structure steady.
But the true source of the promotion plans remained with him.
That is not because he doesn’t trust them, but because only commanders can create these plans with others’ help, and the final decision lies with him and the ship girl in question.
The work was not simple. Every proper promotion plan required care, and the Destiny System did not simply hand him miracles without cost.
It gave direction, but he still had to feed it details, compare materials, and endure the mental strain of forcing the answers into something usable.
If he had tried this before Tier III, it would have drained him dry.
Now, it was still tiring, but possible.
That was the difference.
The first promotion plan he completed was Astra’s.
There had never been any real question about that.
She was his first shipgirl, his flagship, and the backbone of his command structure. If anyone was going to take the first real step into the next level under his hand, it had to be her.
No one objected.
Not even Rhoswen, though she did look like she wanted to complain before deciding it was not worth it.
Astra’s refit took the longest to prepare, not because the work was messy, but because everything about her had to be done properly.
The Black Crown was already powerful, but Tier V was not simply a larger version of what she had been before.
Her hull had to grow around her role as a command battleship, a heavy strike anchor, and the center of Aurelian’s fleet.
Eirenne, Meridian, and the bastion’s awakened technicians spent days refining the production and installation schedule.
Several captured Kharov materials were rejected outright. Some of the Halcyon Vault components were held in reserve.
A few Vhaloric Directorate systems from the bastion were finally approved for controlled use.
Aurelian checked the final plan three times before giving the order.
The modification itself took almost two weeks.
When it was finally complete, the Black Crown no longer looked like the same ship.
Its hull had grown far beyond its old size, stretching into something massive, dark, and sharp-edged, with layered armor plates and a cleaner command profile that made it look less like an upgraded ship and more like something reborn around the same soul.
The main weapons had changed, too.
The old heavy firepower remained at the center of her design, but now it was supported by broader strike systems, improved energy lances, reinforced shield emitters, deep command arrays, and enough auxiliary weaponry to let her fight at multiple ranges without losing her main focus.
But none of them were the main focus as she was not a carrier, nor was she a bruiser like Rhoswen or a precise duelist like Lysara.
Instead, she is and always will be the fleet’s crown.
Aurelian stood on the observation deck overlooking the refit bay as the final stabilization sequence ended.
Astra appeared beside him not long after.
For once, even she was quiet for a few seconds.
Her usual cold composure remained, but there was something different beneath it. Not a surprise exactly.
More like she was trying to feel the difference from before with the connection she had with the ship, and as she did, she got to understand the new changes, like how much larger her body had become, how many new systems had opened, and how much more power she could now hold without strain
"How does it feel?" Aurelian asked.
Astra looked out toward the Black Crown.
"Stable," she said. "Much better than before."
That was very much like her.
Aurelian waited.
After a moment, she added, "And although this is an upgrade, because of its compatibility with the ship, I am able to fight with almost full power from the star before adapting to it."
"That’s good news," Aurelian said as he looked at her with a smile.
That was all they needed.
Rhoswen arrived a little later, pretending that she had only come to inspect the work, but it was obvious she wanted to see the result.
She stared at the Black Crown for a long moment.
Then she said, "That is unfair."
Astra looked at her.
Rhoswen pointed at the refit bay. "Look at her. That is unfair."
"It is a flagship," Lysara said from behind them, arriving with her usual calm. "It is supposed to be unfair."
Rhoswen frowned, then considered that. "Fine. But mine should be unfair too."
Aurelian glanced at her. "It will be, after your armor inspection stops finding new problems."
"That was one time."
"Three times," Meridian said from the nearby console without looking up.
Rhoswen went quiet.
Lysara smiled faintly.
After Astra’s refit was complete, the rest of the schedule moved forward in stages.
Aurelian did not rush the others. The materials were there, but that did not mean every shipgirl should be pushed through at once.
Solenne’s carrier systems needed more work before her next upgrade.
Neris’s new engine had to settle properly before bigger changes.
Lysara’s upgrade path required work tied to her missing Severance Lance, and Aurelian did not want to make a half-finished choice he would regret later.
Rhoswen’s path was clear, but her aggressive hull structure needed reinforcement before he let her move into a higher tier.
