Chapter 1992 - 1993: Tiger Assault
Ling Zhenfei drew his Dragon Tooth Dagger and charged toward the group of mystical tigers.
Zhang Zhenlin wasn't to be left behind, wielding a pitch-black wooden staff, he charged at the tigers.
Earlier, those seven or eight tigers besieged Sun Wei, putting him in quite a predicament, but now with Ling Zhenfei and the others joining in, the situation changed drastically.
The four of them had the strength of the Dawen Realm, a power that was not to be trifled with.
Ling Zhenfei thrust his Dragon Tooth Dagger toward the Chi Tiger.
Zhang Zhenlin's black wooden staff struck the Chi Tiger, producing a resounding thud.
Ling Zhenfei had previously encountered the power of the Chi Tiger and knew it wouldn't be easy to kill.
Especially since the Chi Tiger had sharp teeth and claws, which made anyone suffer greatly.
Sun Wei said, "Brother Ling, I've never tasted tiger before. I wonder if it's sour or sweet, but I'm determined to eat this one."
Sun Wei shouted to Zhang Zhenlin, who naturally understood Sun Wei's intention, saying, "This smaller one looks tender; let's eat it." Then, he swung his staff at the smallest Chi Tiger.
It was no ordinary staff; with a single swing, he sent the smaller Chi Tiger flying, landing right next to Sun Wei, who pummeled the Chi Tiger with both fists.
Sun Wei, being in the Dawen Realm, delivered a powerful punch, sending the Chi Tiger flying to the ground.
Although the Chi Tiger's fur was thick, its internal organs couldn't withstand such an powerful assault, and it struggled for a moment before dying.
The remaining Chi Tigers weren't faring too well; a lone Chi Tiger, once stripped of its sharp teeth and tough fur, had at most the strength of the Zhiyi Boundary.
Its sharp teeth and rugged fur made the creature formidable, but it was no match for four powerful warriors of the Dawen Realm.
Several Chi Tigers were injured by Ling Zhenfei and his companions, with one of them letting out a shout, prompting the tigers to flee.
However, escaping wasn't going to be easy; Murong Liuqing's flute flew and struck a tiger, causing it to fall to the ground.
Two Chi Tigers came back, grabbed the fallen companion, and fled.
Chi Tigers tended to rescue their companions, but at this moment, they left the dead Chi Tiger behind.
Sun Wei looked at the fleeing Chi Tigers, and Xiao Lei said, "I knew these monsters couldn't beat us; it's like they knew we were hungry and brought us food."
Looking at the Chi Tiger at his feet, Sun Wei chuckled, "I wonder if it's tasty."
Murong Liuqing said, "It's already dead; let's not eat it."
Sun Wei argued, "Why not eat it? Maybe it's really delicious."
Murong Liuqing replied, "The heavens show mercy; it's dead, so why eat it?"
Sun Wei retorted, "You know the heavens show mercy, but it's already dead, so it's not about mercy anymore."
The two began to argue again.
At that moment Zhang Zhenlin said, "Stop arguing; why not hear Brother Ling's opinion?"
Everyone turned their attention to Ling Zhenfei, handing him the difficult task.
Ling Zhenfei thought for a moment, knowing it's best not to offend anyone now.
Ling Zhenfei said, "You both make good points. Brother Sun wants to try the Chi Tiger meat, but Miss Murong finds it cruel."
Ling Zhenfei kept an eye on the three others' expressions, then continued, "It's indeed inappropriate to gut the Chi Tiger here. How about this: let's not gut it, but cut off one of its legs instead.
This way, it's not too cruel. When we reach a suitable place, I'll roast the leg for you to try."
Admittedly, this was the best compromise Ling Zhenfei could think of to satisfy both sides.
Sun Wei said, "Alright, that sounds good to me, I never said I wanted to eat the whole tiger."
Murong Liuqing turned away, apparently not wanting to watch the tiger being dismembered.
Ling Zhenfei understood Murong Liuqing's feelings, but the tiger was already dead, much like a chicken or fish—once they're dead, what's the point of hesitation?
If they were truly starving, so weak they couldn't move, then even a live tiger would have been enticing enough to bite into.
Zhang Zhenlin sliced off a tiger leg. The Chi Tiger's fur was extremely tough, enough to make a set of armor that'd be impervious to swords.
The four continued their journey, this time with Ling Zhenfei leading the way, since he had been through here several times and was familiar with the path.
Sun Wei and the others followed closely behind. As they walked, Sun Wei chatted with Ling Zhenfei.
"Brother Ling, what's the story with those peculiar Chi Tigers? They seemed pretty formidable."
Ling Zhenfei replied, "I don't know exactly, they're just some of Xianling Mountain's monsters."
Sun Wei said, "It's odd, Xianling Mountain is full of small animals. Why do they attack humans instead of eating those?"
Ling Zhenfei explained, "There's a logic to it. As you feel like trying to taste a powerful Chi Tiger, the Chi Tiger might see humans and think the same."
Zhang Zhenlin chuckled, "I wonder if those Chi Tigers have cooking skills as good as Brother Ling's."
Everyone laughed aloud.
Ling Zhenfei said, "When I last encountered these Chi Tigers, they were deep in the mountains. I'm not sure why they've ventured to the outskirts of Xianling Mountain this time."
Sun Wei said, "Who knows? Perhaps these Chi Tigers are out traveling and happen to run into us."
As they walked, they reached the depths of the forest where the path became difficult to navigate.
Xianling Mountain was magical yet terrifying. Even those who came here to gather herbs wouldn't venture into these depths.
The path became increasingly treacherous, and even the small trails left by herbalists became scarce.
Ling Zhenfei followed the route he had traversed before; Xianling Mountain was full of trees, and taking the wrong path could be truly troublesome.
They all utilized Northern Spiritual Energy, moving quickly. But it was spring now, and many areas were overgrown with vines, making roads hard to find.
Ling Zhenfei had to rely on memory to find the way; after a while, he suddenly stopped, and Sun Wei and the others quickly halted.
Ling Zhenfei whispered, "There's a presence of Divine Sense ahead."
Everyone cautiously peered into the distance; despite moving forward, Ling Zhenfei kept his Divine Sense covering his surroundings.
This time, it was the Divine Sense that discovered something amiss—a subtle fluctuation of Divine Sense ahead.
