Chapter 49 A Combination of Slashing and Beating
Chapter 49 A Combination of Slashing and Beating
"A major legal flaw?" Qin Han muttered to himself, realizing he had really run into a trap.
Historically, Colonel Parker was an eccentric who refused to step outside the United States.
To avoid going overseas, he refused the Japanese Emperor's exorbitant invitation and also declined Queen Elizabeth's invitation to a royal performance.
The reasons are always varied: concerns about security, physical discomfort, or simply "patriotism".
However, Qin Han knew clearly that there was only one reason behind all of this: although this illegal immigrant had joined the army, he was forced to leave and did not obtain a U.S. passport!
Once he leaves the United States, he will never be able to come back!
This is his biggest weakness: if it is discovered that he is a "ghost" that does not exist in the American legal system, he is not qualified to sign commercial contracts.
Perhaps, we can use INS (the predecessor of ICE) to our advantage?
"Fred, can your friend at the Pentagon help connect you with INS?" Qin Han's voice came through the receiver.
Fred suppressed the urge to scream in the middle of the night—something must be wrong with this kid!
"Understood." He whispered, like an accomplice in a shocking conspiracy, "I'll contact my friend, but it'll take a while..."
"Then I'll be waiting for your surprise." After hanging up the phone, Qin Han stretched and walked towards the bedroom with satisfaction.
Colonel Parker, a man despised by countless Elvis fans in later generations, is nearing the end of his good days.
The next morning.
A black Mercedes convertible pulled up in front of the villa, and the horn blared, calling Qin Han out of the house.
"Hey! Handsome! Get in the car!"
Lorna Barrett wore cat-eye sunglasses and a Hermès scarf wrapped around her head, exuding the air of a wealthy woman.
Looking at the flashy sports car, Qin Han was a little embarrassed: "You got another new car?"
"Who told you to be so slow? I can't wait any longer." Lorna patted the passenger seat dismissively. "Hurry up and get in. The old guys at the radio station don't like waiting."
As the car drove onto Sunset Boulevard, the wind whistled past our ears.
Seeing that there was still some distance to go, Qin Han initiated a conversation: "You've been in Hollywood for so long, what's the industry's opinion of Parker?"
"Evaluation?" Rona scoffed. "If there were a ranking of 'who you most want to see go to hell' in the entertainment industry, Colonel Parker would definitely be in the top three."
"The other two are Nixon and that damn IRS agent."
"This guy is greedy and rude; nobody likes him except the casino owners in Las Vegas."
At this point, she wrinkled her nose as if she had remembered something disgusting:
"You know what? He even went so far as to sell souvenirs at Elvis's mother's funeral. He's a complete scumbag."
Qin Han nodded; these comments were exactly the same as those he remembered.
"When you talked to him yesterday, did you find his accent a little strange?" he said casually.
"Accent? He's from the countryside, West Virginia..."
"West Virginians don't speak like that at all," Qin Han said leisurely, watching the palm trees rushing past by the roadside.
"That way of curling the tongue is more like that of small old European countries, such as the Netherlands or Belgium."
"Screech—!" The Mercedes screeched to a halt at a red light, and Rona's sunglasses slipped down to her nose, revealing a pair of shocked blue eyes.
As a keen journalist, she had already sensed something unusual.
Qin Han looked at the woman whose professional instincts had been aroused—that was enough.
"This fat guy seems to have never left the United States, has he?" he added as the final assist.
Rona felt her blood begin to boil.
If I can get hold of this vampire's weakness, and considering the previous ceasefire livestream, who else can win this year's Pulitzer Prize?
"Many people have investigated him in the past, but because he always touted himself as a good friend of President Lyndon and flaunted photos of the two of them, nothing came of it in the end."
"Oh? Then let's call Peter and ask, then we'll know for sure?"
Yes, who knows President Lyndon’s private relationships better than his personal pen?
Luo Na laughed and gave Qin Han a quick kiss on the cheek: "Let's go, let's deal with those guys from the sports broadcast first. This time, I'm going to strip that fatso naked!"
Soon, the car arrived at the building where Los Angeles Sports Broadcasting was located.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, a heated argument reached their ears.
"I don't care what methods you use! You have to keep that damned Japanese guy under control!"
"Damn it! If you botch this event, the board will tear you to pieces!"
As soon as the guests arrived, the noise inside the house stopped abruptly.
"Hi, Rona! You're finally here!"
Of the two arguing individuals, the older one stepped forward first: "This is...."
"Chairman Parker, let me introduce you." Lorna led Qin Han to the head seat: "This is Qin Han, the president of Han's Film Company and a protégé of Mr. Bruce Lee."
"Qin, this is Chairman Parker, and over there is Harry, the producer of 'Midnight Ring'."
"Nice to meet you." Today, Qin Han was here to play the bad cop, so he didn't say much. His cold attitude seemed to lower the temperature in the room.
Harry's face looked even worse.
This challenge event was an attempt to salvage the show's declining listenership.
The original plan was simply to create a public "carnival show".
Unexpectedly, a Japanese man named Ishii suddenly appeared on Harry's doorstep, giving him the idea to ride on Bruce Lee's coattails.
What was even more unexpected was that the public opinion fermented too quickly, not only alarming the person in question, but also causing the registration situation to get somewhat out of control.
Now, not only is the Japanese man unwilling to go on stage, but even Bruce Lee's student has come to demand an explanation.
"Mr. Qin..." Parker, a man who had seen it all, offered Qin Han a cigar, attempting to ease the tension.
"Regarding that Japanese man... it was indeed a misunderstanding. Our initial intention was to promote combat sports, we never expected it to turn out like this..."
"A misunderstanding?" Qin Han didn't take the cigar. "Mr. Parker, my master is very angry right now."
"He's a true martial artist, not a circus monkey! You've been using his name on the radio for publicity without permission, and you want him to fight in a ring?"
"This is an insult to a grandmaster!"
Harry turned pale with fright and looked to Lorna for help.
Lorna, however, looked down at her own nails, giving off an "I can't help you" vibe.
"Mr. Qin, let's talk this out!" Parker wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. "Of course we respect Mr. Li! We're willing to broadcast our apology statement during prime time!"
"That Japanese guy initially just wanted to be a product promoter on the show! I never expected it to turn out like this."
Seeing that the other party's psychological defenses had been worn down enough, Lorna began to smooth things over:
"Alright, Qin, although Bruce is very angry, he's not planning to pursue this matter for the sake of the bigger picture, is he?"
Hearing Lorna speak, the two finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Harry quickly pressed, "What big picture?"
Lorna took off her sunglasses: "You all probably know about the recent flooding on the Mississippi River, right?"
