Chapter 26 Those damn robbers dared to steal my pig?!
In the mountains north of the village, on a roughly cleared area, several sheds made of branches and tarpaulins stood crookedly, and in the center of the camp was a smoldering campfire to hide the smoke.
Around the campfire, a circle of pork was buried; these were the spoils the bandits had robbed that day.
The villagers raised their pigs very well; even without an open flame, the pigs would still sizzle and ooze oil from the ashes.
In the northeast corner of the camp was a spacious hall made of stacked logs, brightly lit, where the bandits gathered to eat meat heartily.
Trevor sat in the main seat at the far end of the hall, his hair gray. The small table in front of him was laden with food.
He used his dagger to pick up the pork knuckle on the table, took a couple of bites, and then glanced at his men below.
His gaze then settled on one of the drunkards' henchmen who was furthest away from him.
Suddenly, Trevor burst into laughter and asked him, "Hey! Kid, how's the wine?"
The young subordinate groggily raised his head, picked up the wooden wine cup, and stammered flattery, "It's...it's delicious. Boss is amazing! Boss is mighty! I'll follow you and work hard from now on."
The robbers around him silently moved aside, keeping their distance.
"Work with me, why don't you obey my orders?" Trevor still maintained a smile on his face.
The atmosphere around us instantly turned icy.
"I remember saying that those villagers would definitely send people to deal with us soon, and that we weren't allowed to drink alcohol for a while, right?"
The man sobered up completely and stammered, unable to say anything.
"Alright, finish what you have left and go to sleep."
Trevor waved him away.
The young subordinate tilted his head back, downed the drink, and scrambled out of the room.
The hall remained silent.
"What are you all looking at me for? Eat! Play! Or are you guys not satisfied with the spoils I stole from the raid?"
Deliberate laughter filled the hall again.
At that moment, Rice pushed open the door of the lobby where the robbers were guarding it and walked in.
"Isn't this Brother Rice 1? Why aren't you staying in the village? Come and sit down, what news do you have this time?" Teverley patted the empty seat next to him.
Rice 1 had been Trevor's informant for a long time.
He walked over and sat down, his face full of anger. He told the other man about what had happened in the village that afternoon, how the village chief had brought two adventurers to deal with him, and how he had been bullied by that blocky man.
Rice 1 also emphasized the pig with the gold coins stuffed in it, and said that the pig might disappear tomorrow.
"But those two are here to deal with you."
The robbers were itching to act when they heard this, but Terfrey gestured for them to be quiet.
After scrutinizing Rice's face for a moment, Trevor flicked a silver coin to the nearest subordinate and sent him to check on the situation.
Seeing that Trevor had taken action, Rice 1 pressed his advantage: "It would be best to send out all our forces and crush them directly."
"What are you up to, kid?" Trevor narrowed his eyes, making Rice break out in a cold sweat, then laughed heartily, "Fine, I'll report back as soon as I get the information. I haven't wasted my time raising you as an informant."
Just as Rice breathed a sigh of relief, he was suddenly pressed down on the back of his head with great force, and his face slammed onto the table.
"You think I'd say that? You bastard!"
Trevor pressed down on Rice's head with a creaking sound, leaning closer until their noses were almost touching.
"Trying to outsmart me? Do you think I'm stupid enough to believe that two adventurers would come to take on a mission to subdue us? Huh? Back in my day, I was at least a Gold-rank adventurer in the guild."
"Tell me! Who exactly are those two people?"
"He...they're from the Papacy, supposedly messengers...but at first I really thought they were adventurers!" Rice said, trembling.
"besides."
"Also, that blocky guy was really tough. He trapped me with some kind of earthen wall and then smashed me with a block, almost killing me! The nun didn't know..."
A mage? Trevor isn't intimidated.
Before he was expelled from the Adventurers' Guild, he had hunted down many mages in the guild, simply walking over and stabbing them with his knife, ending the hunt.
But an earthen wall? This mage is probably a defensive specialist. Although assassination would be troublesome, it also means that he doesn't have many offensive methods.
As for whether he was a member of the Papacy, Trevor didn't care.
Trevor ordered his men to tie Rice's hands behind his back, hang him in the middle of the hall, and stuff several silver coins into his mouth.
"You mean that's how gold coins were stuffed into the pig's mouth, right?" Trevor laughed.
Rice clenched his teeth on the silver coin and hummed softly.
After a long while, the subordinate returned: "Boss, I saw a strange square house I've never seen before near the village entrance, and there's a pig in front of the house."
"Isn't this obviously a trap?" Trevor shrugged. "But I like it, otherwise I wouldn't be in this line of work."
He immediately led half of his men out: "The rest of you, guard the base, put out the fires, and don't let Rice 1 escape. I'll deal with him when I get back."

Inside the village, Terra and Mana 1 are spending the night at the village chief's house.
The night was cold, and a fire was lit in the fireplace. A cast iron pot hung above it, containing the stew prepared to entertain the two "papal envoys" that day.
Mana, the village chief, the village chief's wife, and the village chief's son sat around the dining table eating.
Terra stood on the table, surveying the village chief's house. His stew, bowl and all, had been dug up with a pickaxe and sucked into his backpack.
After all, it's a food that gives you a "eat well" buff.
Looking at the room's interior, Terra thought the newly generated buildings were really nice and quite cozy.
Feeling the gazes of the village chief's family, Mana 1 was unsure whether she should continue eating.
I'm hungry if I don't eat, but I feel bad for the village chief's family if I do.
Moreover, Terra the doll is standing on the table.
"I'm full, thank you, village chief. I'm going to go out and patrol now."
Mana wiped her mouth and made an excuse to go out.
As soon as Mana stepped out of the room, she saw a giant eyeball monster staring at her from the sky, and something that looked like a zombie rushing towards her.
Mana quickly cast a fireball, then slammed the door shut and went back inside.
Terra stood on the table and said, "I told you it's dangerous outside at night."
"I've never seen anything like that before!" Mana 1 looked at Terra.
beep~
The zombie that was chasing Mana1 was knocking on the village chief's door.
Eyes in the sky looked in through the window, while the door was being pounded on by zombies.
The village chief and his family were terrified and quickly hugged each other and retreated to the fireplace.
"My lord, that monster is coming in!"
"No, it won't." Terra placed a torch on the floor behind the door, just in case.
