Chapter 36 The Birth of a Ghost
Chapter 36 The Birth of a Ghost
After walking for a while, Lu Zhou stopped in front of a door.
Knock lightly on the door.
"Come in," came Dr. Niu's voice from inside the door.
Pushing open the door, you enter a small, somewhat cluttered office. The desk is piled high with documents and files, and Dr. Niu is sitting behind his desk, engrossed in something.
"Here you are." Dr. Niu looked up, his eyes were a little bloodshot, but he was in good spirits.
Lu Zhou tactfully withdrew and closed the door.
"Here you go, A-Che." Dr. Niu came over with a booklet in his hand.
"For me?"
Yun Che glanced at the cover, which read "Secret Manual: Dragon's Breath," and looked surprised.
Pet skill manual!
In the world of Beast Taming, pets can learn skills not only by mastering their own racial skills, but also by learning from other pets or extraordinary creatures, or through skill manuals.
Skill manuals are the most common and universal way for pets to learn skills.
However, the price of these skill manuals, especially those of mid-to-high level, is beyond the reach of ordinary beast tamers.
Because many mid-to-high-level skills are mastered by only a few people.
Training bases, dojos, skill halls, clans, and organizations all possess some special skills to varying degrees.
Furthermore, being able to use a skill and being able to teach others to use a skill are two different concepts.
Although this "Secret Manual: Dragon's Breath" is an intermediate-level skill, it is definitely not cheap.
Dr. Niu chuckled and said, "I noticed you and Kongkong had some trouble dealing with the Azure Feather Bird before. I suppose you haven't learned any ranged skills yet?"
"Doctor, this is too expensive..."
Halfway through his sentence, Dr. Niu waved his hand and changed the subject, "Did that amber cat come with you?"
Since Dr. Niu had expressed his opinion, Yun Che no longer refused. He turned around, squatted down, and softly called out to the shadow, "Iris."
"Huh?" The little guy cautiously peeked out from the shadows, looking around as if to check if it was safe and if the guy with the hammer was still there.
Yun Che smiled and took it out, gently stroking and comforting it.
"Don't be afraid."
Then he said to Dr. Niu, "I've given it a name, Iris."
"A good name," Dr. Niu praised.
I'm not surprised by the relationship between Yun Che and Iris.
In his view, with Yun Che's "Beast Tamer talent", it would be relatively easy for him to establish a friendly relationship with a wild supernatural creature that has no hostility or malice.
"Let's do a simple little experiment first," Dr. Niu said, taking out two pieces of dragon bone, each about the size of a fingernail, and placing them on the ground.
"Iris...Iris tail, right? Which of these two dragon bones do you want?"
"Ugh, ugh?" Iris subconsciously looked at Yun Che.
Yun Che gave him a reassuring look and said, "It's okay, choose boldly."
With his permission, Iris no longer hesitated, stepped forward, and her claws unhesitatingly selected one of the pieces.
Dr. Niu nodded slightly.
The result was not much different from his guess.
"Dr. Niu, these two pieces of dragon bone..." Yun Che also realized the purpose of this simple experiment.
"That's right, one piece was found in the Blue River, and the other is just ordinary dragon bone."
The piece that Iris chose was the one she found in the Blue River.
"Chirp..." Kongkong quietly stepped forward, looked at Dr. Niu, then at Yun Che, chuckled, and grabbed another piece of dragon bone.
This scene did not escape their eyes. Yun Che sighed and Dr. Niu laughed, "It's all yours."
"Chirp!!" Kongkong clenched his fist excitedly.
You made a profit!
"Doctor, you examined the keel before, and... didn't you find anything unusual?" Yun Che couldn't help but ask.
Dr. Niu possesses the Beast Tamer's talent "Eye of Fine Detail," yet he failed to detect the anomaly within the dragon bone?
"It's hidden quite well, and the dragon-type energy outside the dragon bones hasn't completely dissipated, obscuring the view."
"The Eye of the Fine Scale" simply means having strong observational skills and being able to see some energy flow; it does not mean that one can see through things, especially when there is a barrier of dragon-type energy.
"Doctor, what exactly is that power...?"
"The ghost, or more precisely, a force that has not yet been fully transformed into ghost-attribute energy."
"Has it not been fully converted into ghost-attribute energy yet?"
What is this?
Dr. Niu didn't answer, but instead asked, "Do you know how ghost-attribute supernatural beings are born?"
"Uh..." Yun Che was stunned.
The ways in which extraordinary beings are born are varied and bizarre, but the most common and conventional method is naturally the reproduction of offspring by two extraordinary beings.
For example, the Purple Amber Cat must have been conceived; it couldn't have appeared out of thin air, could it?
But if we answer like that, wouldn't Dr. Niu's question be meaningless?
Recalling the "power that has not yet been fully converted into ghost-attribute energy" mentioned earlier, his pupils contracted slightly, and he tentatively asked:
"Could it be... a transformation or rebirth of some kind of being after its death?"
Before Dr. Niu could answer, he pressed on, "Doctor, are you saying that the reason this dragon bone is like this is because... it's transforming into a ghost-type? A necromancer dragon?!"
Dr. Niu gave him an appreciative look.
"That's right."
Upon hearing the answer, Yun Che's lips twitched.
He had just made a random guess, but he actually came right.
"That doesn't make sense." Yun Che frowned again. "If it's meant to transform into a death dragon, why are the dragon bones shattered into pieces the size of fingernails?"
"Because it was man-made." Dr. Niu didn't keep anyone in suspense and directly stated the reason.
"Man-made?!" Yun Che's voice rose several octaves, and Kong Kong and Iris couldn't help but look over.
"Perhaps it was done by a human, or perhaps... by some extraordinary creature; the specifics are still unknown."
"That iris..." Yun Che looked at the purple amber cat at his feet.
Dr. Niu also looked at it, "This is one of the reasons I called you here."
"Have you looked at all the information I gave you? The mutation condition of Nightmare Spirit Purple Amber Cat may be that it needs to absorb enough 'half-ghost' energy in this transformation state."
Iris's eyes brightened slightly, and she let out a soft "woof" as she rubbed against Yun Che's leg.
Previously, Yun Che asked it if the energy it absorbed from the dragon bone was ghost energy. It nodded and shook its head, not knowing how to describe it. The "semi-ghost" energy from Dr. Niu felt very fitting.
Yun Che took a deep breath.
"What should I do?"
"Record the characteristics of each 'half-ghost' energy absorbed by Iris afterward. We haven't figured out what kind of extraordinary creature's dragon bone it is, let alone what kind of ghost creature it will transform into, so this information is very important."
"Features?"
Yun Che suddenly realized, but then asked, "But what about this dragon bone..."
Where did they get these dragon bones?
We can't exactly go looking for it in the Blue River ourselves, can we?
"Don't worry, I'll have someone deliver it to you once I find it," Dr. Niu said with a smile.
That's a good relationship.
It takes time for the iris to digest these "half-ghost" energies, and there are more than one strand in a single dragon bone.
Moreover, according to Dr. Niu, this will not affect the use of the dragon bone itself, meaning that Kongkong can still draw dragon attribute energy from the dragon bone.
This is equivalent to providing him with a continuous stream of resources.
These are still two scarce resources.
Delicious.
"Thank you, Doctor," Yun Che said.
Dr. Niu patted him on the shoulder.
"Alright, go ahead. Since it's your first time at the research institute, let Lu Zhou show you around."
"it is good."
Yun Che put away the dragon bone, picked up Iris, called to Kong Kong, and pushed open the door to go out.
Lu Zhou was already waiting at the door in the corridor.
"This way," he said with a smile, leading the way.
Upon seeing Lu Zhou, Iris jumped directly into the shadows, while Kongkong perched on Yun Che's shoulder, curiously looking around.
Outside the window, the sun is shining brightly.
But beneath the calm surface, undercurrents are surging.
