Chapter 27 Reunion in the Ruins
Chapter 27 Reunion in the Ruins
In the primeval forests deep in Southeast Asia, lithe figures moved like ghosts along the muddy mountain paths. Lin Yu, leading Acha and the elite squad sent by General Aung San, braved the wind and rain, rapidly advancing towards the red dot flashing on the screen.
"The signal source is just three kilometers ahead!" Acha shouted into the walkie-talkie, rain streaming down his face. "According to satellite thermal imaging, there's nothing but ruins there, and the temperature is extremely high. It's clearly been the site of a violent explosion!"
"Speed up!" Lin Yu's voice was cold and hard. His right eye, the "Emperor's Eye," gleamed with a ghostly blue light in the darkness as he constantly adjusted his course. "B-02's vital signs are very weak. We must get there before he completely disappears!"
……
When they broke through the last thicket, the sight before them was horrifying.
The former Southeast Asian branch of the "Phoenix" organization is now a sea of fire and ruins. The reinforced concrete structure was twisted and deformed by the explosion and fire, and thick smoke billowed into the sky, turning into black raindrops in the torrential rain.
"There it is!" Lin Yu suddenly stopped and his gaze shot like lightning to a huge concrete slab deep in the ruins.
A dark red figure could be vaguely seen in the gaps between the rubble.
Everyone rushed forward and worked together to move the heavy rubble. When the light finally illuminated the corner, everyone gasped in shock.
B-02 was covered in blood and was almost unrecognizable as human. His left arm was twisted unnaturally, clearly broken, and his body was covered with burns and bullet holes, with blood constantly gushing from the wounds and mixing with the mud and water on the ground.
But he is still alive.
The moment he saw Lin Yu and the others, a faint light suddenly flashed in B-02's previously empty and lifeless eyes. He moved his lips with difficulty, letting out a "hoarse" sound from his throat, as if he wanted to say something, but no sound came out.
"Quick! First aid kit! Call a helicopter!" Lin Yu shouted, ignoring the rubble and glass shards scattered on the ground, he knelt down beside B-02 and gently lifted his head.
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps suddenly came from above the ruins.
"Who?!" Ah Cha suddenly raised her gun.
"Don't shoot! It's me!"
A familiar voice, choked with sobs, rang out. Immediately afterward, Suya stumbled out of the rain. She pushed aside the obstructions and collapsed beside B-02.
"Brother..." Suya reached out her hands tremblingly, wanting to touch B-02's face, but she didn't dare to use force, afraid of hurting him.
Upon seeing Suya, B-02's gaze softened instantly. He laboriously raised his still-movable right hand and tremblingly reached out towards Suya's cheek.
"elder sister……"
These two words seemed to have exhausted all his strength.
"I'm here! I'm here!" Suya could no longer hold back, tears streaming down her face like a burst dam, large drops falling onto B-02's blood-stained face. "Brother, I'm sorry... I'm so sorry for making you wait so long..."
B-02 looked at Suya's tears, a sense of unprecedented peace appearing in his eyes. He seemed to want to laugh, but the movement aggravated his wounds, resulting in an expression that was even more unsightly than crying.
"Don't...cry..." he managed to utter two words, "Protect...my sister..."
This sentence seems to be the most profound mark on his life.
"I'm fine, I'm alright." Suya held his hand tightly, pressing her cheek against his palm. "Brother, let's go home, okay? Let's never be apart again, and never go back to that horrible place."
B-02 nodded slightly, the light in his eyes beginning to dim.
Lin Yu watched this scene from the side, his heart filled with mixed emotions. He knew that B-02's body had reached its limit, and the only thing keeping him conscious was his obsession with his sister.
"Acha, how much longer until the helicopter arrives?" Lin Yu asked anxiously.
"Landing! Three minutes left!"
"Hold on!" Lin Yu leaned down, looking into B-02's eyes. "You are Suya's guardian, and also my brother. As long as you have a breath left, I will never let you die!"
B-02 seemed to understand Lin Yu's words. He looked deeply at Su Ya, then slowly closed his eyes.
"Brother! Brother, don't sleep! Please don't sleep!" Suya shook his body in a panic.
Just then, B-02's fingers twitched slightly, and she gripped Suya's hand tightly.
His eyelids twitched a few times, and he managed to open them a crack again.
This time, his eyes were no longer lost or empty, but filled with tenderness and longing. It was the gaze of "Brother," the gaze of a true human being.
"Sister... Sister..." he murmured softly, the corners of his mouth slightly upturned, forming an extremely faint arc.
Suya's tears fell onto the back of his hand, their scalding heat seemingly awakening the last vestige of his life force.
"I'm here, brother, I'm here." Suya nodded through her tears, her voice choked with emotion but firm. "Let's go home."
In the distance, the deafening roar of a helicopter finally pierced the rain, and the powerful beam of its searchlight swept across the ruins.
"They're here! Quick! Get ready to move!" Acha shouted.
Lin Yu picked up B-02 and felt the faint but tenacious heartbeat under his arms.
"Walk!"
On this hellish ruin where their souls were once imprisoned, the brother and sister held hands tightly, never letting go despite the torrential rain.
The reunion signifies the end of the past nightmare.
And a new dawn is about to break.
