Chapter 36 Interrogation
Chapter 36 Interrogation
"Bang!" Tengu fired a bullet that landed at the feet of the convoy leader.
The convoy was so frightened that they quickly withdrew their feet.
"This iron beast is truly intelligent."
The convoy leader cursed under his breath and dared not make any further outrageous moves.
Before long, Ouyang Nian appeared in Lorraine's sight, carrying an iron chain.
"We've finally arrived. I'm leaving this place to you."
Lorraine let out a breath, put the Lynx sniper rifle on the floor, and stood up to stretch her stiff body.
When the caravan leader saw a woman in armor carrying an iron chain approaching, for some unknown reason, he charged at her bare-handed.
Three gunshots rang out almost simultaneously.
With a "thud," the convoy leader, bleeding from his hands and feet, crashed into the pickup truck at an even faster speed.
Ouyang Nian pinned the convoy leader to the ground, put his hands behind his back, and bound him with iron chains, turning him into a large, fleshy worm.
After tying up the team leader, Ouyang Nian turned his attention to the technician.
The technician was startled by Ouyang Nian's kicking of the team leader. When he saw Ouyang Nian's gaze shift to him, he knelt down with a thud.
"I'll tell you anything. Please, spare my life."
The technician knelt on the ground, trembling, kowtowing and begging for mercy.
Ouyang Nian didn't tolerate him. He went up and kicked the technician over, then picked him up and tied him up in the same way.
"That kid isn't honest either."
Lorraine picked up a simple dagger made of sheet metal from the ground beside him.
"I expected this."
Ouyang Nian shrugged, seemingly indifferent.
"Why don't we just conduct the trial here, so there won't be any bloodshed?"
"Okay, who's going? We need to take care of car number 2."
Lorraine and Ouyang Nian looked at each other, since neither of them had ever done such a thing.
"Forget it, leave it to me. It'll save those two from causing any more trouble."
Ouyang Nian pulled a short knife from his arm armor and casually brandished it.
What question do you want to ask?
"Where is their camp? How many people are there? What do they have? Why are they here? And what is that machine for?"
"Understood. Go and deal with that car."
Ouyang Nianchong waved his hand at Luo Lin, picked up his knife, and began to question him.
"You heard everything he said, right? Tell us one by one; if you do, you might still survive."
Accompanied by Di Ting, Lorraine carried the sniper rifle and walked towards the front vehicle.
Seeing the tightly closed door of car number 2, Lorraine didn't intend to reach out and pull it open. He'd already caught the two valuable individuals; he wouldn't risk opening the door for a mere sliver of information.
Lorraine raised his sniper rifle and aimed at the driver and passenger seats from a position perpendicular to the vehicle.
Green pulled the trigger repeatedly, turning the driver and passenger in the car into a bloody mess through the door.
After dealing with the two men in the vehicle, Lorraine climbed onto the truck bed and inspected the crude firearms they were carrying.
"This is a steel-pipe gun that fires buckshot."
Looking at the gun in his hand, Lorraine felt a headache coming on; if this thing got close, it would be just as deadly.
"At worst, we can just use more ammunition and kill them from a distance. Judging from their posture, they should have a lot of gunpowder in reserve, which should be enough to replenish their supplies."
Finally, Lorraine walked around to the driver's side and, under the watchful eye of Diting, carefully opened the car door.
"It's all minced meat."
Lorraine, looking disgusted, poked the accelerator with their gun.
"It seems the engine of this car is ruined. I just don't know how much fuel is left in the tank."
Lorraine planned to try to drain the fuel from the tank later.
After confirming that the car was safe, Lorraine returned to Ouyang Nian's side.
"How's the trial going?"
"We've got the answers to everything you asked, and there were even some pleasant surprises. It's just that getting information out of this person was a bit difficult."
Ouyang Nian pointed at the leader of the convoy with a bent iron pipe.
"They were indeed attracted by that signal; that machine was used to locate the signal receiver."
"Their camp was built at the foot of a cliff, with about 500 people, a few small farms, and some simple processing equipment."
Lorraine did not glean any information about the ruins from Ouyang Nian's words.
"Is that all? Where's the signal source?"
"This is the unexpected surprise I was talking about. They have a large iron gate embedded in the mountain in their camp, which is why their camp was built there."
"So the signal came from inside that iron gate?"
"Their leader has always wanted to open this door, and recently, for some reason, the door sent out a signal, which is why they followed the signal and ran over here."
Lorraine astutely grasped the key words.
"Again? Has this happened before?"
"There was an excessive amount, but it was irregular. It was probably sent to nearby sources of fire."
Ouyang Nian shook his head.
Lorraine pondered for a moment, then circled the pickup truck before speaking.
"This pickup truck isn't covered in snow, let's drive it back first."
"I'm getting ready to go take a look."
Ouyang Nian asked the question in a tone of certainty.
"Hmm, take this back and modify it; it'll be perfect for use as a means of transportation."
"Then let's retreat."
After saying this, Ouyang Nian picked up his pistol and gave each of the two men a peanut, helping them embark on their journey to the Western Paradise.
"Tengu, Diting, come up."
Tengu easily climbed into the back of the pickup truck.
Di Ting, on the other hand, needed a running start to jump onto the back of the pickup truck.
Lorraine sat in the passenger seat and activated the intelligence system.
1. The automated defense systems in the ruins remain active.
[2. Refresh countdown: 1 day, 1 hour, and 30 minutes.]
3. There is a ruin 70 kilometers to the southwest containing an 85mm cannon equipped with its own fire control radar.
[4. Refresh countdown: 2 hours and 45 minutes per day]
"Oh, that's good news. I just don't know what the judgment mechanism is. Does it only consider the person who opens the door as a friend, or can everyone enter?"
Lorraine decided to go back and ask the ship's onboard AI.
Under Ouyang Nian's control, the abandoned pickup truck quickly returned to the dock.
"How do you plan to change this?"
"There are two options. One is to make a hole in the sunroof and mount the machine gun on the roof. The other is to weld an iron pipe to the cargo bed and mount the machine gun inside the cargo bed."
"Forget about using the roof; it can't support that."
Ouyang Nian decisively rejected Lorraine's first idea.
"What are you going to put on it, a 12.7 Dexterity card?"
"Yes, there's still a lot of ammunition left, and it's powerful and has a long range."
Lorraine nodded decisively, after all, 7.62mm ammunition consumption was relatively high. Both Ouyang Nian and Tian Gou needed to use it.
"Leave the rest to me. You can study that identification signal first."
Ouyang Nian saw the subtitles that popped up on the driver's console display screen.
