Chapter 34 Armored Convoy
Led by Di Ting, Lorraine quickly returned to the dock and boarded the gunboat, whose engine had been replaced.
"Are the reconnaissance drones still watching them?"
The first thing Lorraine did upon boarding the ship was to confirm the location of the reconnaissance drone.
Confirming that the reconnaissance drone was still monitoring them, Lorraine leaned his gun against the wall and, with his dusty combat uniform still on, approached the screen.
During the return journey from Lorraine, the dust kicked up reached the edge of the city.
"Four rusty pickup trucks, each with a ram welded to the front and the entire vehicle covered in makeshift armor plates made of sheet metal."
As dusk fell, Lorraine lowered the drone and obtained a clearer view from the edge of a tall building.
The convoy stopped on the edge of the city, formed a circle, and then 15 people got out of the vehicles, all carrying homemade weapons.
One of the men, who appeared to be a technician, was fiddling with a machine, and the person standing next to him was suspected to be a foreman.
"What do we do now? Retreat?"
Looking at the convoy in the video, Ouyang Nian felt that it must be a powerful force behind it. He thought it best to avoid direct confrontation for now and wait until the drone strike platform was completed before taking them all down.
"Now that the engine replacement is complete, why don't we start the engine to lure them over and launch an ambush?"
Seeing that Luo Lin shook her head and rejected her suggestion, Ouyang Nian proposed another solution.
"This can be considered a backup plan. However, I'm more curious about why they came here and what the machine does."
Lorraine pointed to the machine with an antenna in the picture.
"Furthermore, Tengu intercepted a strange identification signal earlier. I wonder if this is related to these people."
The main reason Lorraine chose to rest here was because of the ruins located a dozen kilometers away.
However, exploring ruins always requires a suitable source of information, especially since the direction this group came from doesn't seem to be far from the ruins.
"Okay, tomorrow morning, we'll set up an explosion on the road to the dock to try and lure them over. I'll find a place to ambush them and see if we can capture a couple alive."
Lorraine hoped to get information about the ruins from them.
Whatever we need to do tomorrow, the priority right now is to keep an eye on these people and not let them out of our sight.
"Place another reconnaissance drone on the roof to keep an eye on them. That way, we can keep track of their every move throughout the night."
The reconnaissance drone has been launched and is en route to the target location.

"Should we still have them keep watch tonight?"
The reconnaissance drones have been deployed. The sun has already set, and Ouyang Nian thinks it would be best if someone were watching over things tonight.
"Just leave it to Tiangou and Diting. Get some rest. We still have a tough battle to fight tomorrow."
"Don't worry, I'll sleep in the driver's seat tonight. If there's an emergency, Diting will wake me up quickly."
Lorraine told her to go and rest, while he slept fully clothed in the driver's seat.

The rising sun woke Lorraine, who was sleeping in the driver's seat.
Lorraine washed her face with cold water, pondering what to have for breakfast while asking Tengu about the events of the previous night.
"Did these people behave anything unusual last night?"
"Nothing happened, not even getting up at night to purge the water."
"It looks like this group of people are getting ready to eat, and one of them is still fiddling with that machine."
"Understood."
Lorraine mumbled through his noodles.
"Here, for you."
While Ouyang Nian was eating bread, Lorraine told him the action plan.
"I understand, but don't fight head-on. If things go wrong, remember to run away as soon as possible."
Ouyang Nian agreed to Lorraine's plan, but warned Lorraine to be careful, since they were about to face armed thugs with homemade guns.
"Don't worry, you're still on the ship waiting for me to come back."
Lorraine gave Ouyang Nian a big smile, then slung her gun over her shoulder and led Tiangou and Diting to the ambush site.
On his way to the ambush site, Lorraine threw two freshly made time bombs to the side of the road.
Lorraine returned to the hotel by the crossroads.
Once Lorraine had set up his sniper rifle on the fourth floor of the hotel and was in ambush position, the time bomb he had dropped earlier exploded.
"Support drones have taken off and are expected to arrive at their designated locations in three minutes. Support drone number one is carrying bombs, and support drone number two is carrying incendiary bombs."

Using the sound of an explosion as a signal to begin the operation, Ouyang Nian deployed support drones to the vicinity ahead of schedule, as planned.
"Commander, they've made a move."
The Tengu, who was controlling the drone and keeping an eye on the group, sent a message.

From the drone's perspective, after a brief moment of panic, the crowd near the pickup truck grabbed their weapons and climbed into the back seat.
"Tengu, predict the route of the enemy convoy and report any emergencies immediately."
Lorraine stopped paying attention to the drone's perspective and aimed her sniper rifle at the road they were about to pass.
The convoy's four pickup trucks sped onto the road, maintaining a steady speed through the abandoned city.
Soon, the pickup truck, which was at the front of the group and responsible for clearing the way, came into Lorraine's view.
"That's good, these people are indeed a bunch of thugs."
Upon seeing the bloodstains on the rusty metal, Lorraine's faint sense of guilt vanished instantly.
Having previously seen this well-trained convoy from a drone's perspective, Lorraine had assumed they had encountered some rare, law-abiding citizens in the apocalypse.
"The lead vehicle of the enemy convoy has come into view. Support drones take off. Support drone one bombs the lead vehicle. Support drone two is on standby in the air."
Lorraine issued the instructions to Ouyang Nian, who was on the ship.

Ouyang Nian controlled two drones to hover 100 meters above the trap, ready to drop bombs at any time.
The enemy's second and third vehicles passed through Lorraine's sights one after another.
The enemy's tail vehicle, however, failed to appear for a long time.
"The enemy's lead vehicle is about to reach the explosion location. Should we proceed?"

"The other car has stopped!"
Lorraine was now ready to let the enemy's tail vehicle go.

Lorraine gave the order and immediately pulled the trigger.
"Bang!" Flames shot from the muzzle of the Lynx anti-materiel rifle. A 12.7mm bullet had accurately struck the vehicle's engine.

Seeing black smoke billowing from the enemy vehicle's engine and its speed noticeably decreasing, Lorraine aimed at the driver's seat and emptied all four rounds from the magazine.
"Tengu, kill the remaining armed personnel, suppress the others, and allow the use of grenades for deterrence strikes. Do not let a single person escape."
