Chapter 338 Onwards to danger
Chapter 338 Onwards to danger
Following the direction where the flux energy surge came from, Uriel was now on the right track to clear the dungeon, but that didn't mean it would be fast or easy. The deeper he ventured inside the dungeon, the more dangerous enemies he found.
Pigmies were mostly harmless, even in big numbers they had trouble piercing the thick skin of an ascended, but even if they managed to hurt Uriel he was able to heal within seconds. That wasn't the case for the enemies that followed, though.
"Not again!" Uriel let out dejectedly as he now faced a giant version of an old enemy: A cricket.
Although most insects looked more disgusting than dangerous, the same couldn't be said from a two meter high cricket-like creature that walked on two feet. The loud chirping, powerful enough to burst the eardrums of an ascended didn't help either and Uriel fell on his knees covering his ears trying to avoid the pain.
The cricket took the chance to launch itself towards the defenseless hunter, it's mandibles already secreting a gooey substance in anticipation for the easy meal, but Uriel was far from being easy prey.
Instead of trying to run away, he rolled forward right in between the cricket's legs and shot at it point blank, with such bad luck that the bullet shattered into pieces causing the shrapnel to hit him directly on the face and blinding him.

Shooting from a close distance allowed Uriel to never miss a shot, but it had the disadvantage of leaving him open to attacks, especially while he couldn't see or hear anything. Not just that, now that he was in so much pain, not even his mystical sense worked properly.
Had Luna been present, she would have explained him that antennae are covered in nerves and very sensitive to pain, but since she wasn't around all Uriel could do was to make the most of his advantage and he shot the cricket directly on the insect's compound eyes causing its head to explode into a green goo.
Because of the seething pain he was experiencing, the first thing Uriel did after defeating the cricket was to hide in a corner of the chamber and pull out the many thorns that pierced deep into his body. Even though they were made of the same matter as the insect's exoskeleton, they were as hard as allow and by pulling them out he only made the wounds worse.
It was something he could only afford to do thank to Water warlock's blessing, but even though his life wasn't in danger, it didn't mean it hurt any less and he ended up passing out.
After regaining his consciousness, he picked up the flux orb that was left in the ground and proceeded to store it inside his trait which triggered a system prompt.
[System notice] Consume the entity level flux orb [Y/N]
"Yes!" The he said and the flux orb was consumed, the closer he got to the ten flux orb mark the more excited he became about it. But now wasn't the time to be thrilled, because after defeating the entity level cryptid, he knew he was drawing near to the source of the flux energy he previously felt.
Step by step he drew closer to his destination, the corridors became narrower and the smooth stone shifted in color as he descended into the forgotten depths of the belly button of the world. The atmosphere shifted from a grim cave into a solemn hall filled with pictographs, but they were different from those in the cave.
The further Uriel walked, the more defined and less 'rustic' they looked until they started resembling the ancient language Uriel had deciphered to the point where he was able to understand their meaning.
"This can't be!" Uriel shouted with complete disregard for his safety as the meaning behind the words he unveiled was way more than he could handle. It wasn't enlightenment as much as it was the soul crushing tale of what needed to be done in order to clear the dungeon.
