Chapter 839
Chapter 839
Mercurio, whom Anton was calling the fat man in his mind, was a merchant who tried his luck in Ormunda. The merchant originally came from Izmorta, bringing his wife and small children with him. After amassing considerable wealth, Mercurio decided to return to Izmorta to continue his business there and enroll his four children in the White Orchid Organization. That decision was made because Mercurio’s family was a legacy family of the said organization. That meant that it would be easier for the merchant’s children to enter it without difficulties.
According to Mercurios, the magical organizations in Izmorta would accept youths ages thirteen to twenty-three, as long as they met the qualifications those organizations required. From what Mercurio had learned from the information his several great-grandfather had left, the requirement would depend on the wizardry rank a youth had achieved.
For someone like Anton, who was twenty years old, the requirement was no less than the archmage rank. That meant that his proud achievement of having reached the Supreme Rank wasn’t that big of a deal.
Anton didn’t really care since his goal was not to show off his current power, but to learn. The most important thing was for him to be able to enter the organization so he could learn, even if he was treated as a novice. His main goal, anyway, was to start from scratch.
Mercurio also warned Anton not to mention the widely used category that normal folks had been using to define the organizations. The magical organization actually didn’t define itself as “Black”, “White”, or “Neutral”.
The fat merchant advised Anton that if he truly wanted to enter one of the magical organizations in Izmorta, the best thing he could do was to find out everything he could, which admittedly would be shallow information, about the magical organization he wanted to join. Ultimately, he shouldn’t worry about the category but should be glad if one of them accepted him because managing to enter the magical organization was almost always a guarantee that a wizard would reach an extremely lofty rank.
Mercurio also mentioned that Izmorta was three times as big as the Gale Continent and was more magically advanced. Something like the Undead Coalition wouldn’t be able to occur in such a powerful land. The only reason why Izmorta wasn’t able to rule the world was that the organizations didn’t care to ally themselves with each other. Basically, the powers that be in that powerful continent were fragmented. Not only that, Mercurio found it peculiar that the magical organization in Izmorta seemed not to care about what was happening in the world. It was as if their gaze was focused on something else.
Antons speculated that the magical organizations in Izmorta’s focus were on other dimensions, and that made him extremely excited.
That meant that his goal of becoming a multidimensional adventurer might be possible.
At first, Anton thought of befriending Mercurio’s children, but after he told them that his goal was to enter one of the magical organizations in Izmorta, the fat merchant’s children started looking at him with barely concealed disdain. It was as if they were sure that Anton couldn’t enter such lofty organizations, despite the fact that they didn’t know anything about him and despite the fact that they had learned the ship considered Anton a very important person.
More than likely, they thought of him as just a scion of a very rich noble who was now disguising himself as a regular adventurer.
That was actually the main reason why Anton preferred to befriend regular folks instead of those nobles or the very rich. The normal people, like his friends aboard Amelia, wouldn’t care about the status of a person but would genuinely befriend someone because they found that person compatible with them. They usually wouldn’t think about the advantages they could garner from befriending a high and mighty noble, simply because they thought of themselves as not qualified to think about such things. That kind of thinking would only occur to people who had reached a certain status.
Still, Anton was glad to have met Mercurio. He had learned a lot of things from the merchant. When Mercurio suggested that his children and he group in exploring the ship, Anton just smiled, which was the same expression that the children of the merchant had.
The only thing Anton could say was that Mercurio was truly wise in the ways of the world and understood immediately that his children and Anton wouldn’t become friends. Anton could even tell that Mercurio was aware that the fault was with his children and just sighed.
Mercurio and his wife were happy enough to enjoy the lunch that Anton had treated them to. Even those who were extremely rich didn’t have the standing to eat at the Revere restaurant since, according to the information that had spread among the passengers, only high-ranking nobles and powerful wizards could enter the high and mighty restaurant.
Based on that alone, Mercurio could tell that Anton was truly an important person. More than likely, once Mercurio was alone with his children, his four children would hear an earful from their father.
After they had eaten, Anton separated from Mercurio and his family. He wished the merchant well but wouldn’t mingle with his children. He went to his room to consolidate all the information that he had learned from the merchant.
Once he was done writing everything that he had learned about Izmorta in his notebook that he had purchased from Ormunda, Anton tested if he truly couldn’t establish a portal while he was on the ship, Melinda. When he used a town portal scroll, he received a message from his Diablo System that a portal couldn’t be established and that he should find a stable ground to erect the portal. Even though he was expecting it, he still felt a little down.
Anton decided to dispel his gloom by roaming around the ship. The first area he planned to roam around was the area surrounding his rooms, which only took him a short time since the floor where his room was located only consisted of other rooms, and he couldn’t just barge into those private rooms just to inspect them. More than likely, the rooms on that floor would be the same anyway.
Before he stepped outside his rooms, Anton heard a knock on his door, and upon checking, it was one of the ship's crew who brought him the information packet that was promised to him by the captain.
The information packet was large and contained everything he needed to know about the ship, Melinda. There was a map of all the floors that passengers were allowed to go to and the locations that were strictly for the ship’s crew.
The map was extremely useful because it pointed out all the entertainment venues that a man with means could enjoy while on board the ship. There were theaters, bars, taverns, dancing halls, restaurants, swimming pools, libraries, gambling dens, and red-light districts. Anton felt that the ship was comparable to those high-end cruises back on Earth. Not that he had any experience going on a cruise on Earth, but he did have the internet and had learned about what one could see inside leisure cruises.
Anton remembered the Kraken that attacked Amelia. The Kraken’s tentacles were one of the tastiest foods he had ever eaten, and he hoped that something like it would attack Melinda so he could experience eating kraken tentacles again.
