Chapter 666: City Center Tower

Chapter 666: City Center Tower

When Lin Ye picked up the motorcycle, Old Zhang had already been drained into a withered corpse by those Octopus-Headed People. The Octopus-Headed People noticed Lin Ye and started charging toward him at full speed.

Luckily, the motorcycle keys were still inserted below the dashboard.

Lin Ye started the motorcycle and floored the accelerator.

This was his first time riding a motorcycle, but as a Veteran Driver, even without spiritual energy, he could steadily handle all kinds of vehicles.

The motorcycle flew out of the hospital gates. Riding a motorcycle felt completely different from driving a car. A motorcycle only had two wheels, and there were no protective barriers around it. Compared to a car, a motorcycle was more dangerous, but also more liberating.

Lin Ye didn't need to worry about those Octopus-Headed People chasing after him. This was a dream world without spiritual energy in the environment, and those Octopus-Headed People were nothing more than physically strong beasts. They couldn't catch up to a speeding motorcycle.

The roar of the motorcycle could be heard from several streets away. Large numbers of Octopus-Headed People gathered in this direction, but all they could do was eat dust behind Lin Ye.

Lin Ye quickly got a feel for riding the motorcycle. Maintaining a speed that could flip over at any moment, he wove through all kinds of obstacles piled up on the road.

Octopus-Headed People kept rushing toward the motorcycle from various directions. Some even dropped down from the sky, but Lin Ye dodged them all.

He had originally planned to stop by the police station to grab some weapons, but the current situation wouldn't allow him to halt.

If he slowed down even a little, he'd be overwhelmed by a swarm of Octopus-Headed People.

So he could only keep accelerating.

Lin Ye headed straight for the tallest building in the city, the City Center Tower.

The City Center Tower was the city's landmark building, over a hundred floors tall, with a height exceeding three hundred meters.

But before entering that building, Lin Ye had to deal with the Octopus-Headed People that kept gathering around him.

The Octopus-Headed People couldn't catch the motorcycle, but they were attracted by its sound, constantly popping out from all kinds of places.

Once a certain distance was established, the Octopus-Headed People would stop chasing Lin Ye and instead find a nearby water pit to roll around in.

So all Lin Ye had to do was gather them all behind his motorcycle, then gradually "place" them in suitable positions one by one.

This wasn't difficult for Lin Ye, it just required some time.

The city's road conditions were complicated. While driving, Lin Ye pulled out his phone to check the city map. He needed to plan his next route of action.

He would first have to lure away the Octopus-Headed People near the City Center Tower, then shake off the ones following behind, before he could enter the tower.

On top of that, he'd have to look for some weapons along the way, just in case.

Before long, Lin Ye smoothly completed the first step of his plan, drawing away the Octopus-Headed People near the City Center Tower.

As he passed by the City Center Tower, he noticed that the main entrance had been completely sealed off. Some Silhouettes were hiding inside, secretly watching the street outside.

He hoped the master of that abandoned area was also hiding inside. That would make things much easier to resolve.

By constantly adjusting his speed, Lin Ye gradually scattered the Octopus-Headed People behind him to areas far from the City Center Tower. After shaking off all the Octopus-Headed People, he stopped the motorcycle outside a police station.

"Hopefully I can find some usable weapons in here."

Lin Ye entered the police station. It was clearly attacked by the Octopus-Headed People. Drained corpses were scattered all over the floor.

Near those corpses, Lin Ye found a few pistols, but all their bullets had been spent.

There weren't many weapons or equipment left in the warehouse, but Lin Ye still found a few boxes of pistol ammunition in the corner.

Lin Ye put on a stab-proof vest, pulled on cut-resistant gloves, then filled the pistol magazines with bullets until all the magazines he could find were loaded.

This thing probably couldn't easily kill those monsters. After all, Lin Ye hadn't seen a single monster corpse up to now.

But it would be plenty easy for killing people.

After all, this was originally a weapon meant for dealing with humans.

He packed the remaining bullets and a few other useful items into his backpack. Once he was prepared, Lin Ye mounted the motorcycle and sped straight toward the City Center Tower.

The first floor of the City Center Tower was surrounded by glass walls. The main entrance was blocked by many obstacles, so Lin Ye had to find another way in.

On a road still several hundred meters from the City Center Tower, Lin Ye began to accelerate.

The roar of the motorcycle echoed through the entire block. The road flew backward at breakneck speed. The City Center Tower was right ahead, and Lin Ye didn't slow down.

Smash!

The glass wall shattered as the motorcycle crashed through it. Lin Ye drove the motorcycle directly into the first floor of the City Center Tower. A group of weapon-wielding men stared in shock as Lin Ye let go of the motorcycle and slammed into a sofa.

"Who are you?"

A young man in a security guard uniform approached with a metal baton, but he quickly started backing away because what answered him was a pistol pointed at his head.

"I need to get to the rooftop. Give me the blueprints for this place."

Lin Ye aimed the gun barrel at a man who looked like a hotel manager.

"...Please follow me."

The man led Lin Ye into a management office on the first floor. After searching for a while, he found the architectural blueprints for the City Center Tower.

Lin Ye picked up the blueprints and scanned them. He quickly memorized the more important information.

"I need to go to the top floor. Take me up there."

The City Center Tower had a full one hundred and twenty-four floors. Lin Ye had no intention of walking up through the emergency stairwell.

"Here's an elevator card. I'll take you up right away."

The man wisely took out an elevator card and handed it to Lin Ye.

"There should be a place in this building that can control the elevator, right?"

Lin Ye didn't want to get trapped inside an elevator.

"Don't worry, the elevator machine room is on the top floor. Right now, only a few residents are up there. They probably can't even find the machine room, and they don't have the key to it either."

The man immediately replied.

"Good. Either way, you're coming up with me. If we get stuck on the way, you know what'll happen."

Lin Ye left the office with the man. The elevator happened to be waiting on the first floor. They stepped inside and pressed the button for the top floor.

The elevator ascended quickly. Nothing that Lin Ye worried about happened during the ride. They arrived smoothly at the top floor.

Outside the elevator, some weapon-wielding residents were gathered. When they saw the gun in Lin Ye's hand, they quickly cleared a path.

Lin Ye stepped out of the elevator and walked straight toward the fire exit leading to the rooftop. On the way to the rooftop, he found a young girl in the corridor with a blank, dazed expression.

"What are you doing here? I thought you'd be out there watching over my body."

Lin Ye grabbed Little Guardian and kept moving forward. Seeing Lin Ye visibly perked her up a bit.

The City Center Tower's rooftop was very spacious. Lin Ye locked the fire exit and pulled Little Guardian over to the edge of the rooftop.
